Roger Lucas

Hi, my name is Roger Lucas. I’m the president for Purcell Tire. I want to start off by saying congratulations to Bob and Juanita. Making 90 years is an incredible testament to what they have built with Purcell Tire. It's a milestone that a lot of companies don't make. That's really a testament to what they've been able to build as a couple for this organization.

As far as my story with Purcell, I started with the company about 12–13 years ago. I had worked with Michelin and had a lot of opportunities to do different things. When Bob and Juanita had approached me, I had to think, “OK, why them and not somebody else?” and as you start to think about the story and what they built it's really a story of differentiation and what they do different in the marketplace and what they had built that to me allows you to separate yourself and, can I be a part of that? I think what they have done and what we've built here at Purcell Tire is definitely unique. But more importantly to that I think what they built as far as the family is concerned even though we're a large organization taking care of the employees at times of needs and then in normal times is critical. I think having that human element of what they have done and to be able to take care of people is a testament to them as individuals, but I think it's also the base for how you create a successful organization. Challenges are always going to be there, but if you have strong people that are committed to what you're doing, you're going to be successful. I made that same choice when I left my previous employer with Michelin because of what we had here and how they made me feel coming in as far as that family aspect is concerned made the difference for me in my decision to be a part of this organization. A part of this 90-year history.
